5 Places Where Cancer Causing Chemicals Lurk In Your House

There are cancer causing chemicals that are lurking in our houses. They hide in unlikely places, as as a recent report by the Environmental Working Group reveals. Knowing what the chemicals are and where they are found is knowledge we all need to protect ourselves and our families. Using the EWG’s report, I identified five places where cancer causing chemicals are lurking. Reducing our exposure to these known cancer causing chemicals is a good place to start protecting ourselves.

1. Canned foods.
Canned foods are lined with a plastic made from an industrial chemical called Bisphenol A (BPA). Exposure to BPA is widespread. A study for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) found detectable levels of BPA in 93 percent of urine samples from people aged six years and older. Even minimal exposure increases the risk for several types of cancer, including breast and prostate.

There are two ways to avoid BPA exposure. The first one is to ditch canned foods, swapping them for fresh food and food in glass jars or waxed cardboard cartons. The second way is to say “no thanks” to cash register receipts because they are often printed on paper coated with BPA.
