Vegetable Garden Planning

Before you go out and buy your seeds and seedlings, you'll need to do your Organic Vegetable Garden Planning.

Get your planning correct now and you'll have less problems with pests and diseases and generally more success all around.

Step 1:

What do you want to plant? Some ideas to help decide:

: The top twelve plants that you should grow due to the amount of chemicals used by commercial methods

: What does your family eat a lot of?

: What veggies/ fruit are expensive even when in season?

: Do you eat a lot of salad in Summer? Veggies for Soups and Stews in Winter?

: If you don't have room or time to grow everything - leave out veggies you can get cheaply from the shop and ones that don't require a lot of chemicals.

Step 2:

What season can you plant these in? You'll need to split your plants up depending on when they are ready to plant. Remember you can get early and late varieties of certain plants. It's certainly worth finding these for your favorite and versatile veggies like tomatoes . Fruit trees also have early and late varieties.

Step 3:

How many garden beds do you have? Are any of these raised beds ? Some plants are better off the ground. Your herbs are best close to the kitchen (so they are easy to get to while cooking and you don't forget to use them!). Are you going to grow pumpkins or watermelons? These plants need a lot of room but don't necessarily need you to prepare
