Try these natural tips for conceiving.You and your partner are ready to have a baby and you want to prepare yourselves for the process. Getting pregnant can come easier and faster if proper attention is given to creating the ideal circumstances for conception. Couples hoping for quicker success in the process of getting pregnant should consider the following tips:

 

 

Eat a Healthy, Balanced Diet

As a nutritionist, I am continuously astounded by people’s lack of awareness of the connection between what they eat and reproductive health. If you are not eating a diet full of nutrients supporting your overall health, you may run into fertility issues that stem from nutritional deficiencies.

As part of a balanced and nutrient dense diet, it is wise to include at least two servings of raw vegetables daily (in addition to five other servings) to ensure you are getting increased vitamins and enzymes. Eating raw vegetables prevents nutrients from being destroyed through the cooking process.

Another suggestion is to get a blood test done to ensure you and your partner both have adequate levels of key nutrients in your body. Deficiencies in nutrients such as folic acid, iron, B12, zinc, vitamin E, and essential fatty acids may decrease fertility.

Improve Your Digestion

This tip goes hand in hand with the previous tip, as proper digestion ensures you are actually absorbing and consequently utilizing the vitamins and minerals contained in your food. Good digestion begins with properly chewing your food. Chewing helps to break food down so that as it reaches the other points in your gastro-intestinal (GI) tract, it can be further digested and assimilated. If you quicken the chewing phase, the rest of your GI tract will have to work harder, which can eventually lead to weakened digestion.

As well, ensure not to drink more than small sips of water with meals or overeat. Both of these habits will slow down digestion and inhibit nutrient access.

Understand Your Cycles

Many women do not know when they are ovulating, but understanding when ovulation is taking place is key to conception. Couples can only achieve pregnancy about three to five days a menstrual cycle, around the release of an egg. It is important to determine when this period of ovulation is occurring to maximize that window.

Reduce Stress

Decades of studies are all pointing to the same thing: stress interferes with pregnancy. Evolutionarily speaking, women were not meant to become pregnant during times of intense stress. The body innately recognizes stressful times as dangerous and ultimately decides that pregnancy is not a priority at that moment. The problem with modern day living is that so many of us are chronically stressed, which may prevent the release of essential reproductive hormones.

Stress management techniques should be part of every expectant couple’s life. Consider experimenting with massage therapy, time in nature, yoga, and meditation to help bring more balance into your life.

Try Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an age-old healing technique that opens up the energy meridians in the body, allowing energy and subsequently blood and lymph fluids to flow properly. Many couples are turning to acupuncture to help them conceive. Acupuncture can help increase fertility by reducing stress, improving blood and nutrient flow to the vital reproductive organs, and balancing hormones. Try to find a practitioner who specializes in treating couples for fertility.

Reduce Caffeine Intake

Research demonstrates that consuming more than two cups of coffee per day increases a woman’s chance of having a miscarriage. Since many miscarriages happen within the first few weeks after conception—before a couple even realizes they are pregnant—these miscarriages may go unnoticed and women may just believe they are not getting pregnant.

Achieve a Healthy Weight

Being at a healthy weight increases your chances of getting pregnant. Too far above or below a healthy weight can inhibit fertility. Women need a certain amount of body fat to carry a pregnancy while too much can interfere with becoming pregnant. Ideally, body fat percentage should not exceed 30 percent.

If you have followed all of these steps and have not conceived within 12 months, you may choose to consult a fertility specialist for individualized care and to rule out any reproductive problems.
