Eating healthy can be challenging. Here are some practical tips from our Naturally Savvy Experts to help you make healthier food choices.
Odessa Gill is Naturally Savvy's Women's Health Expert When visiting friends for a dinner party, instead of bringing wine, I often bring a nice bottle of extra virgin olive oil for the host! Oftentimes, the hosts will be given many bottles of wine from their guests so olive oil is a great idea because it can be used that night and for many days to come!
As well, I like to bring my favorite dish and its recipe printed out for the host in case she or any guests like my creation.
I recommend that my clients dedicate one day per week–usually on the weekends-to make a couple of dishes that can be used during the week. For example, a large salad can be made and then divided into glass containers, which can then be used for lunches. This saves you extra time, money and provides you with a daily serving of vegetables.

Stock up on food staples of the Japanese diet.
Dried seaweed, such as nori sheets and miso paste are easy foods to keep on hand and they have a multitude of possible applications. Cut a square nori sheet into 3 equal pieces and use them to pick up your rice.
Or crumple and tear nori pieces to sprinkle into your rice, veggies, or soup. Seaweed can also be used as a healthy snack on its own. It is rich in trace minerals and vitamins and its salty flavor helps to allay salt cravings. It can also help the body in removing toxins.
Miso paste is one of the fastest healthy snacks you can have on hand. Simply add hot water and you’ve got a soup.

You could add:

Miso is a fermented soy product that is loaded with minerals, vitamin E, antioxidants, and protective fatty acids. Its natural enzymes and beneficial bacteria can also help digestion. Miso is a good source of protein and fiber and is low in calories. Just don’t cook it too long or it will lose some of its benefits.

As a busy parent, who has time for puréeing? Certainly not me! So I buy organic baby food (great for kids and adults) and mix it in to fortify my favorite go-to recipes: Pear and Apple are great in muffin mix (and cuts the need for oil in half); Sweet Potato is great in pancake batter; Peaches give a punch of flavor to smoothies.
