In response to consumer demand for cleaner ingredients, PepsiCo has launched an organic version of their popular sports drink, Gatorade. G Organic is USDA certified and contains fewer ingredients than its conventional counterpart.
Noticeably absent from G Organic is artificial flavors and artificial colors which have long been present in original Gatorade. In order to receive organic certification, removal of these questionable ingredients is required.
The company's move comes as a reaction to growing consumer interest in organic products, and particularly in response to growing demand among professional athletes who require sports drinks as part of their training. This latest version will have the same amounts of carbohydrates and electrolytes (providing equivalent hydration required of active individuals) but be made with environmentally sound farming practices and lacking detrimental chemical ingredients – both significant improvements.
While we applaud PepsiCo's decision to support organic agriculture and acknowledge consumer desire to see artificial colors and artificial flavors removed from food products, we would like to see these improvements made among all of their products – making cleaner, organic products the norm, not just the latest and greatest marketing move.[Editor's Note: If you're looking for a great-tasting, organic sports drink, Naturally Savvy recommends our sponsor Uncle Matt's Organic Probiotic Waters or Lily of the Desert's Aloe H2O, which contains over 200 active, health-boosting nutrients.]KEEP READING: 6 Healthy Sports Drink Alternatives
