Finding a decent, natural nail polish is not an easy task. Some chip really easily, take forever to dry or when they do dry, they don’t match the color on the bottle. But hey, it’s still better then coating your nails in chemicals. When we got our hands on Scotch Naturals non-toxic nail polish we excited to start layering on the color. Scotch Naturals are also the creators of Hopscotch, the non-toxic, natural nail polish for kids, which is a favorite at Naturally Savvy. We hoped the Scotch Naturals natural nail polish for adults worked just as well.
There are still a great number of nail polish manufacturers using scary chemicals in their products. The ingredient lists for these tiny tubes of tints would boggle a chemist. No matter what product you’re using for your nails, always check the ingredient list.
Ginny Cardenas, founder of Scotch Naturals, was irritated with the amount of toxins found in cosmetics. In 2009 Ginny created Hopscotch as a safer alternative to the chemical ridden cosmetic lines promoted for children. A few years later in 2009, Ginny launched Scotch Naturals, a non-toxic, eco-friendly, hypoallergenic, fragrance- free and biodegradable natural nail polish for adults.
Scotch Naturals comes in more mature nail colors that are focused on the adult consumer, rather than the hot pinks and greens of the Hopscotch collection. Colors like navy, taupe, soft pinks and greys. Good luck choosing just one color from their 17-shade collection. There’s a shade for every occasion.
What makes these chic polishes different from the conventional brands is their water based formula. Water based polishes will actually nourish and protect your nails rather than leech toxins into them. Scotch Naturals contains none of the chemicals found in typical nail polish: toluene, dibutyl phthelate, formaldehyde, acetone, or heavy metals. They also make a acetone free nail polish remover.
Just like Hopscotch, Scotch Naturals natural nail polish did not fall short. They sent us Loch Ness Mystery (a dusty blue) and Kiltlifter (blood red). Although not our first choice when it comes to natural nail polish colors, we still gave them a try.
We found Scotch Naturals natural nail polish dries quickly enough but it did take time for the color to actually set. On Scotch Natural’s website, they recommend painting your nails before bed so you can allow the color to set over night. All in all, we liked the way this natural nail polish brand looked on our fingers and both the colors they sent were saturated enough that you can go with just one coat if that's what you choose.
Scotch Naturals is an excellent option to conventional brands of nail polish. If you’re a first timer with natural nail polishes, there is a bit of a learning curve to the paint. But once you get the hang of it, it’s smooth nail polish sailing. Hands down Scotch Naturals deserves the Naturally Savvy Seal of Approval.
