Consider the impact toxins have on weight loss before you start losing weight. Toxins are chemicals that harm the body’s cells, organs, and functions. Toxins exist externally in polluted air, water, alcohol, medications, food additives, and household chemicals. The body also produces toxins. Undigested food can putrefy which creates internal toxins that also damage cells, tissues, and organs.

Toxins reduce energy and slow down metabolism. This impedes weight loss. Removing toxins from your body allows it to work more efficiently. If the body does not have to deal with toxins, it can work on functioning optimally.

Removing toxins also improves the digestive system. When the digestive system works efficiently, we absorb the nutrients we eat more fully. This also increases metabolism and energy.

Here are some quick and easy things you can do to cleanse on a regular basis:

  • Drink warm purified water with lemon juice throughout the day to alkalize your body and cleanse and stimulate your liver and kidneys.

  • Drink juices made of leafy greens. Chlorophyll in leafy greens builds up the blood with important nutrients and helps to promotes regularity. Studies have also shown that chlorophyll inhibits cellular damage from radiation.

  • Add more fiber to your diet. There are two types of fiber, soluble and insoluble. Soluble fiber absorbs excess cholesterol and toxins and insoluble fiber ‘scours’ the intestinal tract and colon clean. Both types are essential for good health so think of fiber as your daily janitor keeping you clean. For example, beans are a great way to up the fiber count of a meal.

  • Exercise regularly. In regards to detoxification, the lymphatic system gathers toxins and during exercise it releases these toxins into the circulatory system, where they are processed by the liver and eliminated through the bladder or colon. Exercise also helps you sweat out toxins.

  • Saunas, as well as steam baths and hot bathtub soaks, are great for sweating out unwanted toxins. The skin is the largest organ of your body and because of its size and area, it actually eliminates more cellular waste, through the pores, than the colon and kidneys combined.

If you’re looking to cleanse more deeply, you may want to consider an herbal cleansing kit. Go to your local health food store to find the one that’s right for you. Look for one that stimulates all 7 channels of elimination (liver, colon, kidneys, lungs, blood, skin and lymphatic system).

Cleansing, by itself, does not cause you to lose weight in terms of body fat. Some people, however, may lose 2-10 pounds from excess waste and water. Doing a toxin cleanse before you start a weight loss program will dramatically improve your results by allowing you to either lose more weight, or lose it more quickly.
