This fragrant, mysterious spice from the East comes as tiny black seeds wrapped in their own protective pod. A member of the ginger family, cardamom is known for its delicate flavoring of East Indian dishes, as well as a fragrant spice in baked goods, akin to cinnamon and nutmeg. The best way to retain the potency of cardamom is to remove the seeds from the pod and grind them with a mortar and pestle. Then inhale deeply and experience euphoria.

Cardamom can be used to alleviate sore gums, sore throats and teeth infections. Place a few crushed pods in a pot of water and boil for 20 minutes, then add milk (or milk substitute) and a little sweetener to make a perfect remedy for a tummy ache.
