Cranberry Applesauce Coconut Cookies
At our house the kids have grown and moved away, but we have nine Spaniels that act like a bunch of toddlers. There are nine stockings hung over the fireplace, waiting for Santa Paws to arrive and fill them with some holiday goodies. It only seems fitting that the Spaniels leave some cookies for Santa Paws that are Spaniel-friendly. Try these delicious pet treats recipes (you can eat them too!):
Ingredients
1 cup applesauce (organic, no sugar, or make your own)
1 cup lightly chopped cranberries
2 cups coconut flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup almond milk
Directions
Mix all ingredients together. Drop by rounded teaspoons on parchment paper lined cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 to 15 minutes. Makes 4 dozen. Store in the refrigerator.
Gingerbread Postmen
Not one human cookie has been baked at our house yet this year, but the dogs are in heaven! We made "Gingerbread Postmen" – the only postmen your dog should bite. Ingredients were simple – low fat, low protein, and good for any dog. You can eat these also, but you would probably prefer something sweeter.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups quinoa flour
2 eggs
1/4 cup almond milk
1/2 teaspoon finely grated fresh ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon to sprinkle on top
Directions
Mix together all ingredients except cinnamon. Roll out on floured board, adding flour as needed to make dough less sticky. Cut out “men” with cookie cutter then sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for about 10 to 12 minutes, depending on thickness of cookies.
Liver Fruitcake
Liver fruitcake may not sound good to you, but your dogs will love you for making this tasty treat. It can be wrapped and given as a loaf or cut into bite size treats and put in a decorative jar or box.
Ingredients
1 pound chicken liver – ground in food processor or grinder attachment for stand mixer
1/2 cup organic blueberries
1/2 cup organic cranberries
2 eggs
1/4 cup ground flaxseed meal
Directions
Mix all ingredients together. Oil small loaf pans with extra virgin olive oil. Pour mixed ingredients into small loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30 minutes, depending on size of pan. It should be firm to the touch when finished. Allow to cool then slice into bite size pieces and serve! Refrigerate unused portions and use within 5 to 7 days. Unused portions can be frozen and thawed before feeding.
