Homemade Vanilla Extract

Homemade vanilla extract is easy and smells wonderful. It makes a great gift, too!

Ingredients:

  • 7 vanilla beans cut in half cross ways and split lengthwise*
  • 2 cups Bulleit Bourbon
  • 1/8 cup simple syrup

Steps/Methods:

*Scrape the seeds from vanilla pods if you want and add into the mixture or just split the beans.

Pour bourbon into a dark or clear glass jar.

If you use a mason jar make sure they are not the older variety with lead lids. Add vanilla beans and make sure they are completely covered in bourbon.

Add simple syrup.

Close jar and shake ingredients for 1 min (I know your arms are going to get tired.)

Let ingredients sit for 2 months in a very dark cool area. You can then transfer into smaller containers if you want but make sure each container has a piece of vanilla bean.
